Distributing medicines across the globe has always been challenging, but recent times and our ambitious global expansion have made these challenges even more complex.

As we continue our mission to provide medicines to patients with rare diseases around the globe, we would like to shine a spotlight on individuals within our organisation dedicated to ensuring these medicines reach those who need them.

At the core of our mission is the commitment of our colleagues and partners, who are navigating the evolving landscape of global supply and distribution. Sobi's Global Distribution Manager, David Liem, sheds light on the extensive reach of our Global Supply operations, driven by a collaborative effort between internal resources and external logistics partners.

“There are approximately 200 people within our company and our partners that span the globe. Their collective expertise covers various critical functions such as sourcing, planning, transport, trade compliance, operations, customer service, quality assurance (QA), distribution, and more. This network is further strengthened by contributions of forwarding agents, pilots, truck drivers, and countless others who also play vital roles in making sure our products reach the patients,” David says.

In line with our business priorities, expanded access to treatment through geographical expansion is a key element of our commitment to patients. Our ambition is to reach more people in more countries with novel and transformative medicines in areas of high unmet medical need.

“While we have always faced logistical challenges, the global disruptions brought about by recent events such as the pandemic, geo-political and environmental challenges have added complexity to our supply and distribution chains. These challenges have forced our teams and partners to think creatively and adapt to ensure the medicines get through to those in critical need.”

Christine Wesström, our Global Head of Technical Operations overseeing supply, quality, and manufacturing, shares some insights.

“As Sobi grows, we continue to navigate this dynamic environment. We have established structures to assess, plan, and act fast, in response to evolving circumstances. This adaptive approach is now our new normal. We are leveraging our existing operational models and empowering our teams to make the right decisions. Witnessing the talent and dedication of our colleagues during these challenging times fills us with pride. They truly are the heroes driving our mission forward.”
