Sobi marks Earth Day with strong progress on science-based climate targets

On Earth Day 2026, Sobi celebrates meaningful progress on its climate journey from validated science-based targets to rising use of renewable electricity and fossil-free car fleets across several countries. These achievements reflect the power of local action driving global impact.

In 2025, Sobi’s climate targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). At the same time, emissions from Sobi’s own operations (Scope 1 and 2) decreased by 22% year-on-year, even as the business continued to grow.

“Earth Day is a moment to pause and look at the impact we are having – and the difference we can make,” says Cecilia Nord, Global Head of Sustainability at Sobi. “Our progress shows that it is possible to grow a rare disease business while reducing emissions.”

Progress on renewable electricity

Energy is a key lever in Sobi’s transition plan. The company increased the share of renewable electricity used in its own operations to 83% and signed new contracts in a number of countries, including Italy and France, which accelerate this trend. In other countries, Sobi is gradually shifting sites and offices to more energy-efficient premises or purchasing renewable energy certificates where direct contracts are not yet available.

Fossil‑free company car fleets

Sobi is also transforming its company car fleet in line with its climate ambitions. Today, 59% of the car fleet consists of electric or low-emission hybrid vehicles.

At group level, Sobi is steadily increasing the share of electric and low-emission hybrid cars and has set a clear trajectory towards a fully low- and zero-emission fleet by 2029. Denmark, Finland and Belgium now operate fossil-free company car fleets, relying entirely on electric or low-emission hybrid vehicles.
The transition is supported by a global car policy that prioritises low-emission vehicles and by close collaboration with local markets to address charging infrastructure and driver needs.

Engaging the value chain

The majority of Sobi’s emissions come from its value chain (Scope 3). To address this, Sobi is collaborating actively with suppliers and partners.

52% of key suppliers, measured by share of spend, have set their own science-based targets, showing strong progress toward Sobi’s 65% target by 2029.

In logistics, projects to optimise transport planning have reduced the number of shipments on certain routes, cutting emissions per product delivered.

Looking ahead

Sobi remains committed to reducing emissions across its operations and value chain.
Cecilia Nord adds: “Our ambition is to integrate climate considerations into everyday decisions – from how our partners and we power our sites to how we move our people and products. Earth Day is not a finish line; it is a milestone on a longer journey to a more sustainable healthcare system.”
