With patient safety in focus

We are delighted to be celebrating World Patient Safety Day today on 17 September. But for us at Sobi, patient safety is a 24/7, 365-days-a-year commitment.

Every single person at Sobi has a role in ensuring the safety of our products. This is the key to Patient Safety: it is a team effort.

For example, commercial field staff in local teams all around the world who hear of potential adverse events when speaking to healthcare professionals, report those events to Global Patient Safety where dedicated colleagues process and analyse the information.

Everyone has a role to play
But it is not only healthcare professionals who can be the source of an adverse event report – it can be patients, friends and family or a neighbour. Everyone has a role to play! At country level, many different activities support Global Patient Safety.

In the UK, for example, as Ana Gouveia, Medical Affairs Specialist (pictured), explains: “All new colleagues starting with Sobi receive product safety training. We ensure all UK staff understand their responsibilities regarding patient safety. These extend from identifying and reporting adverse events, to ensuring our vendors (for activities such as patient support programmes and market research) have patient safety obligations in their contracts with us.

“For products requiring additional risk minimisation activities, we ensure that materials including those for patients are approved and distributed at the right time. There is nobody at Sobi here in the UK who isn’t playing a very important part at ensuring Patient Safety”

For all of us at Sobi, our focus on patient safety never stops. And our commitment to the vital area is only possible thanks to amazing teamwork by colleagues around the world.
