What is Caphosol?
Caphosol is a supersaturated electrolyte mouth rinse. The product is registered as a medical device class I.

What is Caphosol used for?
Caphosol is indicated as an adjunct to standard oral care in the prevention and treatment of the mucositis that may be caused by radiation or high dose chemotherapy.
Caphosol is also  indicated for dryness of the mouth and oropharynx (hyposalivation, xerostomia), regardless of the cause and of the duration of the pathological condition.

How does Caphosol work?
Caphosol moistens, lubricates and cleans the oral cavity including the mucosa, tongue and oropharynx.
As Caphosol is a supersaturated calcium phosphate solution, it is a valuable supplemental source of these inorganic ions, known to be depleted during episodes of mucositis due to modified saliva production and loss of intracellular fluid from damaged tissues. Phosphate ions represent a key building block of the mucosal lining and will help restore the pH balance, therefore reducing the risk of bacterial overgrowth. Calcium ions play a central role in inflammation and tissue repair.
